PAIN MANAGEMENT

Pain Management

Infiltration
Infiltration is the diffusion or accumulation of substances not normal to it or in amounts in excess. As part of medical intervention, local an aesthetics may be injected at more than one point so as to infiltrate an area prior to a surgical procedure. Wound infiltration for surgery. Wound infiltration with local an aesthetics is a simple, effective and inexpensive means of providing good analgesia for a variety of surgical procedures without any major side-effects.
Rhizotomy

Rhizotomy is a surgical procedure to sever nerve roots in the spinal cord. The procedure effectively relieves chronic back pain and muscle spasms. For spinal joint pain, a facet rhizotomy may provide lasting low back pain relief by disabling the sensory nerve at the facet joint. This procedure can be performed by an Orthopaedic Surgeon or Neuro Surgeon.

Facet Joint Injection or Infiltration (Spine/Back Pain Management)

A facet joint block or injection is a minimally invasive procedure  in which a physician injects a small amount of local aneasthetic and/or medication to numb a facet joint and provide pain relief. Fluoroscopy, a form of real-time x-ray, or CT is used to guide the placement of the needle into the facet joint.  This procedure can be performed by an Orthopaedic Surgeon or Neuro Surgeon.

Fibromyalgia Pain

Fibromyalgia is a disorder characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain accompanied by fatigue, sleep, memory and mood issues. Researchers believe that fibromyalgia amplifies painful sensations by affecting the way your brain and spinal cord process painful and nonpainful signals.

Cluster headache

Cluster headache is a primary headache disorder and the most common of the group of headache disorders called trigeminal autonomic cephalalgias. During a cluster cycle, brief, excruciatingly severe headache attacks recur between 1-8 times per day. Cluster cycles can last for weeks or months and are usually separated by remission periods, or periods of headache freedom, which usually last months or years.

Facial Pain

Sometimes facial pain is not trauma induced, but caused by a malfunctioning of the nerves that govern the face’s movement. The trigeminal nerve relays messages between your brain and sensory organs, providing information about face and scalp sensation (ophthalmic), the mouth and nose (maxillary), and chewing (mandibular). The pain is severe enough that daily activities, such as chewing, eating, or teeth brushing, can be agonizing.
