What is a Day Hospital?

Day Hospital is also referred to as Day Clinic: It is an operating theatre facility within a hospital setting which only accommodates surgical day procedures where patients are admitted and discharged on the same day. Patients don’t stay overnight. Worldwide up to 60% of all surgical procedures can be carried out in a day hospital. Day surgery is a more cost-effective option for both patients and medical aids.

Which procedures are done in Centurion Day Hospital?

Any surgical procedure where the patient does not need to stay overnight in hospital. Please see a full list of all procedures we accommodate on the list provided.

Can any patient make use of your facilities?
Yes, you can introduce your treating doctor to the Centurion Day Hospital if they are not already familiar with the Hospital. Alternatively, you can consult a doctor that already make use of our operating facility. Click here for a list.
What is the cost of the procedures?

All procedures are charged as per negotiated medical aid tariffs as instructed by the medical aids. Each medical aid has its own price list and billing rules. We follow these rules during our billing process. Private Patients are given a very competitive quotation on request. We strive to help all patients. Please contact our administrative staff for assistance or a quotation.

Which medical aids do Centurion Day Hospital accept?

We accept all South African medical aid funds. If you have an Insurance type cover, you will have to settle the Hospital first and then claim back from your Insurance company. Please contact our administrative staff for assistance.

What are the steps I must follow to obtain authorisation for my procedure?

We will gladly assist with the authorization if you struggle with your medical aid. You can call your medical aid with the following details given by your treating doctor.

  • ICD 10 Code
  • CPT code
  • Tariff codes (and in case of dental procedures also the tooth number).
  • Practice number of Treating Doctor
  • Practice number for hospital (Our practice number: 0207047)
  • Date of the surgery.

    All this information is compulsory to obtain authorization from your medical aid. In some instances, for example with Removal of Impacted Teeth, your medical aid will also request for Panoramic x-ray and in other instances they may also request quotation from your treating provider and motivation. Everything depends on scheme rules. Please contact us if you need assistance.

What options do I have if my medical aid decline my procedure?

If your medical aid declines your procedure, please phone the hospital for a quotation, we will then assist you further with relevant information in regards to payment options.

Do you also help patients without medical aid?

Yes, we do. We will always evaluate each patient case and give outcome on merit.

Which payment methods do you accept?

You may make EFT, Card or Cash Payments. We also will accept payment from financial institutions. Co-payments and Deductible payments (short payments) will be discussed with patients and relevant payment option will be given. You can also swipe your account cards e.g Edgars, Jet & Makro. Can I eat before my operation?

NO. Your stomach must be empty. If there is content in your stomach during the procedure, gastric juices can rise and can be aspirated in your lungs. This is very dangerous. It is absolutely necessary for patients not to eat or drink anything (including water) six hours prior to the procedure.

How long does it take to be discharged after the operation?

It will depend on the procedure you had. If you are stable, awake and alert with vitals that is in accordance to your procedure, you may leave. Usually an hour after procedure for Adults, younger children sometimes can leave after half an hour. Each Patient are evaluated before instructions will be given for Discharge. You will also be provided with after care instructions.

Can I drive myself home after the operation?

NO. Kindly arrange for someone to fetch you after your procedure. It is never a good idea to drive yourself home after surgery, as anaesthesia can slow down reflexes, slow your thought processes, and can even cause amnesia in the hours following surgery. So, while you may feel like yourself, your ability to drive and your judgement may be severely compromised.

Is it safe to bring personal items like purse, watch or jewellery with me?

It is always better to leave all valuable items at home. If it can’t be left at home for some reason, we will lock it up for you. However, we don’t take responsibility for any loss, damage or stolen items. Contact lenses can be removed in the ward before surgery.

Is there any overnight accommodation available?

Yes, we do have Suikerbos Selfsorg that is located on our hospital premises.  We have 2 affordable self-catering  units for our travelling patients who many times need a place to stay before being submitted to our hospital the next day or families that want to be close to a loved one in hospital.  The premises have 24-hour security, and a maximum of 4 people can be accommodated per unit.
